Do you have issues when it comes to boundaries? In this episode, we have a guest speaker who has been a teacher, mentor, volunteer and board member of Christian Women’s Job Corporation of Tyler for 25 years. This is a ministry equipping women with job skills and life skills in a Christ-centered environment. We are honored to have the one and only Gay Brookshire on the podcast with us.
Boundaries are your property line. They’re what define what is you and what isn’t you. Boundaries help us distinguish between what is and what isn’t. For example, you don’t mow your neighbors yard unless they’ve broken a leg and you’re doing something nice.
Boundaries are important because they keep you focused. They help to keep you focused on what is important. It’s hard to keep focused if you make your boundaries known or visible. Do your boundaries allow you to stay focused?
There’s multiple types of boundaries and you can hear all of them in the podcast episode, but we’re going to dive into 3 of them in this blog post.
Your most basic boundary is your skin. It’s literally holding all of you together. If you didn’t have it, you’d be a puddle. Everybody has sin and so it’s super important to pay attention to how people treat that part of yourself. Your skin is your most basic boundary, take care of it.
Your words are also boundaries. You can use them, especially the word no, but also what you’re telling people because when you’re teaching people about your boundaries, you’re teaching them how to treat you. Truth is another boundary related to words. If you’re paying attention to the truths others are speaking about you, then you’re not hearing God’s truths over your life. Whenever you’re down on yourself, read your BIble and read the truth about God’s opinion of who you are
Time is a great boundary. Time away from something or someone who is causing stress/discomfort/over-stimulation is healthy. Sometimes just removing yourself from a situation and letting things settle down is a great boundary with time. Sometimes you can’t physically remove yourself from a situation so you can just pull yourself away and guard your heart.
Just remember, that you’re not “broken” for no reason (ie: things that have happened) and the damage (injured boundaries) isn’t permanent. It can be fixed!

Move your body for 30 minutes at least every day.
Whatever your vice is, for 40 days you’re not touching it. Break the habit whether it’s your nicotine pen, a glass of wine, social media – whatever it is.
